Post VTCC – it was a success!

November 14, 2018 by VTIO Secretariat Leave a Comment

The general consensus from all was Goulburn Park was on of the best ever sites to hold a competition.

Thanks to Mitchell Shire for their support prior to event, Seymour Venturers and Amy S Coffee carts for feeding us on the day.

We had over 50 volunteers help out on the day and we needed every one of them to manage the 75 competitors. I’ve had lots of feedback from the competitors asking them to pass on their thanks to the white shirts. I would like to single out grant Cody who identified the park, held the initial conversation with Mitchell Shire, did lots of work setting up the events and took the position of Head Judge for the day.

Well done to six time in a row champ Barton Allen-Hall and Rebecca Barnes who added another win to her tally.

A special well done to Samantha McConnell, the inaugural winner of the Tim Broadbent Memorial Award. Tim put a lot of effort into helping develop young climbers and assist those new to the industry. This award, presented by Beaver Kindred, is a fitting way to remember Tim and remind us all that we should always think about being there for those in need.

The VTCC will be held on Saturday 10th November at Goulburn Park, Seymour.

Registrations are now open. Book here.

We’re currently seeking people to help run the event on the day: we need experienced judges, novice judges, people that can use stop watches, people to walk around making sure people have stuff… we need many different skill-sets so if you want to help we have a job for you.

If you have never competed or even been to a tree climbing competition before that doesn’t matter. Volunteering can be a great way to witness the industry engagement, support, camaraderie, positivity and encouragement for all involved.

Please have a discussion with your workplace employer and fellow colleagues. Encourage them to all get involved as it can also be a great way for your crew to connect outside of the daily tasks.

If you, or anyone you know would like to assist feel please contact Karl or Shane via vtcc@vtio.org.au.

If you give them your shirt size you’re guaranteed to get one that fits well.

ArborCamp 2017 a success

May 23, 2017 by VTIO Secretariat Leave a Comment

Thank you to all who attended. We had a wonderful time and we’re sure you did too.

Here are some images from the event.

Leon Costermans trying out the ArborTrim Husqvarna Virtual Chainsaw Challenge.   Leon’s talk was the most well received presentation we think we have ever had at an ArborCamp. Well done to Dave McFee who is the inaugural ArborCamp Virtual Chaisaw Champion.

Hamish Mitchell and the leading contestants from the Speciality Trees Formative Pruning Challenge.  A big thankyou to Hamish Mitchell from Speciality Trees for another fun filled Formative Prune Challenge. Well done to Gregor McPhee who is this years Formative Pruning Champion.

Worksafe presenting their findings from 200 recent worksite inspectors of the tree industry.
We can learn from our past incidents.
