Registration is now open for the 2010 Victorian Tree Climbing Championship, to be held in Warragul across the weekend of the 24th and 25th of October.

Entry is available across four grades: Student Grade is for both male and female climbers who have not competed before and are currently enrolled in an arboricultural training course; female competitors are asked to enrol in the Women’s Grade; and the majority of male climbers will be taking part in the Men’s Open Grade. Only climbers with previous competition experience will be able to compete in the Men’s Masters Grade, which has a limited number of places available. Qualification for this grade will be based primarily on ranking in previous VTCCs, then on ranking in other ISA-format competitions.

International and interstate climbers are very welcome to take part, and although only Victorian climbers will be eligible to take part in the Master’s Challenge, out-of-state competitors will in all other respects compete on a level footing with local climbers: you will be able to win events and take home prizes!

To register please use the form provided here

On Tuesday 28th September the VTIO in partnership with Council Arboriculture Victoria (CAV) will be running a workshop on tree hazard assessment in the beautiful grounds of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Melbourne.

Details are still to be finalised, but we hope to be working with several leading speakers to cover a range of topics related to visual tree assesment, identifying structural weak points and discussing targets, as well as offering a guided ‘walk and talk’ around some of the interesting trees in the gardens. Further information will be posted here as soon as it becomes available.

Registration is available using the form given here.

And so another Arborcamp has been and gone. It was a great weekend, with lots of workshops and activites: hopefully everyone had a good time, and picked up a few new tricks! Thanks to everyone who took part, helped run events or cleaned up afterwards. A full write-up of the weekend can be found on the Arborcamp page.

The VTIO would particularly like to thank our Gold Sponsor, Cannings Outdoor Power Equipment of Mt Waverley. Cannings has been a leading importer, manufacturer, distributor and retailer in the Outdoor Power Equipment Industry for over 50 years, as well as being importers and suppliers of high quality Yale ropes, world standard climbing gear and industrial height safety equipment and techniques, through the ATRAES brand. Cannings are always ready to offer their support to the industry, particularly through their sponsorship of events such as Arborcamp and the annual Victorian Tree Climbing Competition.

The VTIO relies on the support of its sponsors to continue to host events such as Arborcamp and the annual Victorian Tree Climbing Competition. We would like to thank our Silver Sponsors: Bandit Tree Equipment; Treegear; and Vermeer. All put in to help fund the event, and were there on the day to give their support to the industry, and to demonstrate their products.

In addition, Arborcamp was held with the support of our Trade Sponsors. The VTIO would like to thank Arbormaster; Rayco; Arbortrim; Citywide Tree Care and Mt William Tree Nursery.

The next Victorian Arborcamp will be held in 2012, as next year sees the world Arborcamp coming to Australia for the first time, and we will be putting our energies toward helping with that. Hopefully we will see you all there, but if not, see you in 2012!
