2009 Tree Climbing Rules

Posted by Joe on Saturday, 31 October, 2009

The 2009 Victorian Tree Climbing Championship will follow the 2009 International Society of Arboriculture Tree Climbing Competition Rules.  A copy of these is available here.  There are many changes from previous rules sets, and competitors should familiarise themselves with these rules prior to arriving at the competition.

Climbers should also be aware of the most recent guidelines on acceptable equipment.  Due to safety concerns, some of the lighter aluminium snaps are no longer acceptable for competition use.  The ISA policy on which snaps will be accepted is given here.  Please be aware that this ruling will be in force for the 2009 Victorian Tree Climbing Championship.

2009 TCC Special Rules

Posted by Joe on Sunday, 4 October, 2009

Due to unprecedented numbers of climbers at last year’s competition, and the likelihood of an even higher turnout this year, the number of climbers in each grade, and the total number of climbers overall, will be limited in order to ensure that the preliminaries are finished early enough for the Masters’ Challenge to take place in daylight.

1) The Men’s A Grade will be capped at twenty climbers.  Entry to the A Grade will be based primarily on ranking in last year’s competition, then on ranking in other ISA-format competitions, and finally (if places remain) in order of application on a first-come-first-served basis.

2) The total number of competitors will be capped at 60.
