The CAV and VTIO would like to thank ENSPEC, Homewood Consulting and The Tree Works, for their contributions to the tree defect workshop in Bendigo. Furthermore we would like to thank The City of Greater Bendigo for the use of their Botanic gardens and the excellent lunch that was provided to all participants of the tree defect work. This was another successful day with 110 participants where everyone gained something out of it.
Please click on the image below to download a full PDF flyer for the event, which is jointly organised by Council Arboriculture V ictoria (CAV) and the VTIO. Speakers include Ben Kenyon (Homewood Consulting); Tom Greenwood (The Tree Works) and ENSPEC Environment and Risk.

Further details are now available on the tree hazard assessment workshop, to be run by the VTIO in conjunction with Council Arboriculture Victoria (CAV) on Tuesday 28th September in the Royal Botanic Gardens.
The workshop will include an introduction to tree hazard assessment and Visual Tree Assessment (VTA), as well as a more in-depth discussion of techniques for further investigation, including the use of ancillary and specialist tools. There will also be the opportunity to get involved in several practical workshops as we take a look around the fantastic collection of trees in the Royal Botanic Gardens, and discuss the challenges involved in the practical application of Visual Tree Assessment in the field.
We are lucky enough to have some great speakers for the event, including Stephen Fitzgerald, Ben Kenyon and James Martens-Mullaly, who are ready to share their wealth of experience and skill in tree assessment and hazard identification. This will be a great event not only for consultants and council arborists, but also for working climbers who require a high level of VTA in order to assess tree hazards before climbing.
The workshop costs $50 for VTIO or CAV members, and $70 for non-members. This includes morning tea and coffee; you can bring your own picnic or join us in buying a delicious cooked lunch from one of the RBG’s own excellent cafes.
Registration for this workshop is now closed
On Tuesday 28th September the VTIO in partnership with Council Arboriculture Victoria (CAV) will be running a workshop on tree hazard assessment in the beautiful grounds of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Melbourne.
Details are still to be finalised, but we hope to be working with several leading speakers to cover a range of topics related to visual tree assesment, identifying structural weak points and discussing targets, as well as offering a guided ‘walk and talk’ around some of the interesting trees in the gardens. Further information will be posted here as soon as it becomes available.
