Scott Sharpe

On the afternoon of Thursday 5th August Scott Sharpe was killed in a tree felling accident whilst working near Launceston.

Scott was one of the great arborists and tree workers of Australia; a past Victorian tree climbing competition winner and leading contract climber.  Tree workers from all over Australia will remember him for his good humour, his wealth of expertise and the enthusiasm with which he shared it.  His technical climbing and equipment knowledge were world-class, in recognition of which he had recently accepted a seat on the technical advisory committee of the international tree climbing competition.  His loss is a severe blow for our entire industry.

Scott had recently moved back to Tasmania with his family to start a business.  We send our deepest sympathies and condolences to his wife and children.

Some of Scott’s colleagues and friends will be meeting to remember him at 3pm on Tuesday 10th August, at the Notting Hill Hotel on Ferntree Gully Rd., across from Cannings.  Further details will be posted presently.

I have had both the honour and privelege of sharing our worlds through work, leisure and passion for trees.Scott had an infectious smile and the most precise and clinical attitude to his role in the arboriculture field. His expertise, calm and assured manner means he transcended the boundaries of his work and destroyed the stereotype of arborists.I am a mere horticulturist but we bonded in our own unique way and that is precisely the point. He was of another world, affected many people and will be remembered for an array of virtues and strengths that exceeded the limits of connection.I also had the opportunity to view him outside the walls of his work and he is even warmer, more caring and one very interested soul.I called him Scotland McGregor the tree caring world champion…..The King is dead long live Scotty………

I can’t beleive it. It is hard to beleive that someone like him could ever have any misfortune befall him. He was such a special, significant, illuminating individual. It always felt like such a priviledge to even be around him. ..
…May he rest in peace and harrass the ‘Man Upstairs’ with some new rope tricks. I hope there’s some big trees up there for him.
The shell must break before the bird can fly…Journey on Scotty.
